A Stitchist guide

Digitize a logo for machine embroidery

To digitize a logo, start with clean artwork at the intended embroidery size, create editable shapes, choose suitable stitch types and review the sewing order. Stitchist's Auto Digitize is a useful starting point for flat logos, while manual drawing helps with lettering and difficult details.

Ask for the original artwork

A brand's original vector or high-quality image is usually easier to work from than a social-media thumbnail. Keep its intended color references and confirm which elements must remain recognizable at the final size.

A logo designed for a large sign may contain text or outlines that are too small on a cap or pocket. Decide on those changes before generating thousands of stitches.

Choose the shape treatments

Broad solid areas are candidates for fill. Column-like letters and borders may suit satin. Delicate outlines may be better represented by running or bean stitches than by a very thin fill.

Review any automatic suggestion against the actual object. The shape's width, turns and place in the design matter more than the name of the color.

Check overlaps and sequence

Watch how adjoining regions sew. A border placed after a fill can cover an edge, while an unexpected travel path can remain visible. Check small lettering and detached elements as well as the main silhouette.

Do not confuse a good-looking reference image with the generated stitch view. Inspect the stitches themselves and make sure important details are represented.

Deliver a useful file set

Keep the editable source and prepared logo. Export the machine file at the tested size and include the intended dimensions and thread sequence when handing it to another operator.

When a different machine format is needed at the same size, convert the completed stitch file. A new size needs a separate density and detail review.

Common questions

Is a logo automatically production-ready after digitizing?
No. Inspect stitches, scale and sequence, then test the final size on the intended material.
Which logo files work with Auto Digitize?
Supported raster images and SVG can be used. Export PDF or other unsupported artwork as PNG/JPEG, or obtain an original supported SVG.
