A Stitchist guide
Satin vs fill stitch: which should you use?
Satin stitches span a column-like shape and often suit lettering or borders. Fill stitches cover broader regions with rows of shorter stitches. In Stitchist, choose the stitch type for the actual shape and finished size, then inspect the angle, coverage and sequence in preview.

A little preparation makes a better stitch file.Use satin for a coherent column
Satin reads well when stitches can travel across a shape in a clear direction. Letter stems, borders and narrow curved regions are common uses. Abrupt branches, sharp turns and very wide regions need more care.
A satin border follows an outline; a satin fill spans the interior. These are different intentions. Inspect the object's mode so the preview matches what you wanted to sew.
Use fill for broad coverage
A fill creates coverage with repeated rows. It is useful for broad areas where long spanning stitches would be unsuitable. Its angle affects texture and how adjacent regions meet.
More stitches are not automatically better. Check coverage, underlay and overlaps at the final size, and use a sample to judge how the fabric behaves.
Consider running or bean stitches for line work
A narrow decorative line may not need a filled strip. Running and bean stitches follow a path, which can make the intended line easier to control without creating many skinny filled objects.
The useful question is how the detail should look in thread, not whether the source image has a filled pixel region.
Inspect transitions and small parts
Check corners, branch points, small holes and detached details. Watch the sewing order for exposed connections. If one object is awkward, consider dividing or redrawing it in the editable project instead of forcing a single stitch treatment across every part.
