A Stitchist guide

Embroidery software for Chromebook

You can use Stitchist in a Chromebook browser to draw embroidery designs, create lettering, preview stitches and convert existing machine files. You need an internet connection and a way to transfer the downloaded file to your embroidery machine; no desktop digitizing installation is required.

From idea to embroidery

Draw · Digitize · Sew

A little preparation makes a better stitch file.

Start with the task, not an installation

Open Studio for design work, or the converter for an existing stitch file. Manual Studio tools and PES/DST exports are available free. Auto Digitize includes one free design, and Pro adds unlimited use.

If you only need a different machine format, conversion is quicker than starting a new digitizing project. An image still needs stitches created from its artwork.

Give detailed editing enough room

A large enough browser window and a mouse can make selecting nodes and inspecting stitches easier. Complex artwork may be harder to manipulate on a small screen even when the server handles generation.

Use the stitch preview at useful magnification, and keep an eye on the physical dimensions. Screen size is not embroidery size.

Save and transfer the output

Download the result into your local files or your usual storage workflow. Then use the machine's documented transfer method. A Chromebook's ability to save a file does not imply direct control of the machine.

Retain the source project for later edits and keep a separate thread sequence for formats that do not store RGB colors.

Know the limits

Stitchist is an online service rather than an offline Chrome app. Check your connection before a large upload. If the machine rejects the result, verify its accepted format, version and hoop instead of assuming the Chromebook caused it.

Common questions

Can a Chromebook generate embroidery files?
With an online digitizing service such as Stitchist, yes. The browser provides the editor and the server processes the design.
Does Stitchist connect directly to my machine?
The normal workflow is to download a supported file and transfer it using the machine's own procedure.
